Abbeyfeale's strong defense too much for young Corca Dhuibhne side
Abbeyfeale

Rugbaí Chorca Dhuibhne's senior team travelled to Abbeyfeale on Sunday knowing that defeat would ruin any chances of promotion. Unfortunately a good start from the home team with two soft tries within 5 minutes left Chorca Dhuibhne chasing the game, this led to two intercept tries which if the ball had of gone to hand would have been Chorca Dhuibhne tries, this 14 point turn around left the scores at 25-0 at half time which easily could have been 14 each. Chasing the game in the second half and against a strong wind it was always going to be difficult and the young Chorca Dhuibhne side could just not break down a strong and well organised defence. While the result is asset back positives can be taken from the heart and courage shown as well as the excellent performances from Niall Flaherty, Eoin Houlihan and Cathal Mitchel. (Abbeyfeale 41 Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne 0). Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne host Abbeyfeale on Sunday 14th of March all support would be greatly appreciated. In other club news, on Saturday the Chorca Dhuibhne under 13's took on Tralee in the Under 13's Cup. Tralee who had already won the league were big strong and well organised, they took a 22 point lead going in at half time after some great running rugby. The game looked all but over at half time but what people didn't count on was the heart and skill of the Chorca Dhuibhne boys, after some sustaines pressure and great rugby Luke Collins powered over for the first of 4 tries, P.J Hand excellently converted, further tries from the speedy Liam Brosnan, Martin O'Gormain and PJ Hand left the scores at 27-22, unfortunately the lads courageous comeback just ran out of time with Tralee scraping through. This was a wonderful performance and credit must go to all the players, coaches and parents. On Wednesday the first ever Pobal Scoil Chorca Dhuibhne Rugby team will take to the pitch for a 7's tournament in Tralee. The talent in this team makes them a pre tournament favourite, watch this space for more up-dates.

Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne 27 vs Scarrif 19
Ballydavid
  21st Feburary 2010

Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne travelled to Limericks oldest rugby club on Sunday looking for revenge over a decent Presentation outfit who stole the points in the earlier fixture in Dingle. A slow start however did not help their cause, a lack of concentration and some soft tackling allowed pres to take a 14 point head start, a penalty by Johnny Curran took the score to 14-3 at half time. The physicality of the game took its toll with Chorca Dhuibhne loosing the influential Conall O’Ciobhain, the front row could have been in trouble after this but the magnificent Eoin Houlihan,Niall Phelan, Gary O’Conner and captain fantastic Colm O’Shea hit scrum after scrum and drove the Pres scrum backwards repeatedly.
The half time break gave Chorca Dhuibhne a chance to re-group and focus on the game plan, trailing by 14 points and playing a very strong side they had it all to do, however this young side from West Kerry seem to thrive on adversity and what unfolded in the following forty minutes was surely the best performance from any Chorca Dhuibhne side in the clubs history. Every man stood up and was counted, they hit every ruck and scrum as their lives depended on it, the talismatic Ciaran Slattery leading the charge with some bone shuddering hits. With a rock solid defence Chorca Dhuibhne began turning over ball and got to run at the Pres side, with the Collins brothers Sean and Ciaran pulling the strings the ball was thrown about at speed and with wonderful precision, they found holes in the Pres defence and cut them to pieces at will. The influential Slattery put Johnny Curran into space, Curran an amazing broken field runner took on and beat defenders inside and outside and following some great inter-play the majestic Billy O’Conner sprinted in to finish a wonderful backs move. This brought the score to 17-8 with twenty minutes to play. From the re-start the ball was run back by the bulldozing Conachuir Begley, he smashed his way through the defence and set up quick ruck ball. Twenty odd phases later Eoin McGearlt showed beautiful hands to put Michael McGearlt into a hole and he out sprinted the cover to score under the posts. The conversion by Curran left the score at 17-15 with ten minutes still on the clock. This was time for cool heads and ice in the veins, captain Colm O’Shea was the coolest man in Limerick and a massive hit from him on the Pres captain led to turn over ball which was again sent wide with full back Kevin Moriarty putting in a sweet kick with his cultured left boot, the ball landed inside the Pres 22 and did not leave there for the final ten minutes. The away side put bodies on the line time and again and got their reward with two penalties in the final few minutes which were both converted by Curran which left the final score at 17-21. An unfortunate broken finger for Ciaran Slattery was the only negative on a wonderful day for Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne. This group of players are starting to realise their potential and could be heading for something special in the coming months. Support would be greatly appreciated, check us out at www.facebook.com/chrocadhuibhne rfc

Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne 26 Kilrush 22 Munster Junior Cup First Round   18 January 2010

In the first game after the Christmas break Chorca Dhuibhne were always going to be a bit rusty, it took twenty minutes for them to find any rhythm and put some decent phases together, unfortunately at this stage the home team were 5-0 down after a push over scrum. This only served to wake up the Dingle side, following some great inter play from backs and forwards Johnny Curran sent Kevin Moriarty racing up the touch line, he fed inside to Alan Devan who then found Ciaran Slattery, he was caught just before the line but from the resulting ruck the excellent Ciaran Collins threw another trademark dummy and raced to score under the posts. Two long range penalties from Curran brought Chorca Dhuibhne to 13-5 at half time.

The second half began like the first ended with the home side spreading the ball wide at every opportunity and opening up the Kilrush defence at will. Two of these sweeping moves led to the excellent Slattery feeding Curran to race through the defence to finish in style. These scores left Chorca Dhuibhne 26-8 up with twenty minutes to go, some huge surges forward from man of the match Conachur Begley and excellent tactical kicking from Sean Collins kept the Kilrush team pinned in their own half. However, a lack of match fitness and some complacency let the visitors back in the game, two converted scores left the game hanging on a knife’s edge and with 10 minutes to go Kilrush trailed by four points. A huge defensive effort from the home side with massive hits from Gavan Curran, Connal O’Ciobhain, Bernard Galvin and Eoghan McIlroy ensured that Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne adavanced to the second round of the Munster Junior Cup where they will face Division 2 side Muskerry.

Scarif 13 Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne 29   20 December 2009

On a freezing day in Ennis Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne warmed all the hearts of all involved in the club with a sizzling display of attacking rugby which left Scarif battered and bruised!
From the kick off the Dingle side showed their intent to run the ball at any chance, the long lay off and new combinations led to a few mistakes and turn over’s, the home side capitalised from one of these errors to sneak over from a 5 meter scrum. This served to weke up Chorca Dhuibhne and following some sustained pressure the excellent Ciaran O’Coillean threw an audacious dummy and left the cover for dead to score a wonderful individual try under the posts. Cathal Mitchels conversion left the scores at 7-5.
Unfortunately a lack of concentration led to another error and allowed Scarif to score another unconverted try. This left the half time score 10-10. Some strong words at half time seemed to wake the visitors up and they began the second half a different side.
Great carries from Conochuar Begley and Conall O Ciobhain set the tone for an unbelievable second half display. Each player from one to fifteen put their bodies on the line and tackled everything that moved, some great inter play from backs and forwards set up a three on two near the half way line and the strong running Billy O’Conner set Gavan Curran flying up the wing to finish a beautiful try. From here the rusty team started to turn into a well drilled machine who can mix it with the best in the league. Savage tackling from Eoin Houlihan, Colm O’Shea and Eoin Firtear laid a foundation for the backs who moved the ball through the excellent Mitchel and the talismanic Ciaran Slattery. It was one of these sweeping movements that put Billy O’Conner racing through a gap to finish under the posts.
This left the visitors 22-13 up with ten minutes to go and in search of a bonus point. They were then dealt a serious blow when the influential Justin Burgess went down hard and unfortunately cracked a bone in his leg, this is a huge blow for the team and we wish him a speedy recovery. However the lads dug in and got back to the task in hand, a massive line out win from Bernard Galvin some strong rucking from James Dooley, Eoin McIlroy and Conall O’Ciobhain set up good field position from which Ciaran O’Coilean sped over for another magnificent try and the icing on the cake for a wonderful team effort.
Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne welcome Abbeyfeal back west on the 27th of December for a huge game, support would be greatly appreciated with free hot whiskeys during the game this could will be a great occasion and a chance to see West Kerrys most exciting side in action. By Shane O’Rourke

Breathtaking display as Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne dispense with Killorglin   08 November 2009

Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne 23 - Killorglin 06 After a disappointing loss last weekend Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne needed a big performance to lift spirits and get them back on track for promotion. It was never going to be easy for the home team but with great team spirit and a solid work ethic a superb performance got the team back on track today. The game started off at a good pace with lots of kicking and good chasing, the excellent Cathal Mitchel once again putting in a wondrous tactical kicking display. It was one of these kicks early in the first half that led to the first score of the game, with Killorglin under pressure deep inside their 22, Bernard Galvin did a great job of disrupting the line out and the wiley Colm O’Shea pounced on the loose ball and powered over for a great try. The rest of the half was played at a frenetic pace with huge hits and great defence to the fore, a massive penalty from Johnny Curran broght the home side to 8-0 with 5 minutes to go in the first half.A sustained Killorglin attack however led to a penalty under the Corca Dhuibhne posts and a yellow card for captain Colm O’Shea; the resulting penalty left the scores at 8-3 at half time. Playing down the hill in the second half, and with superior fitness levels, Corca Dhuibne really turned up the heat on Killorglin. A huge hit from Sean Collins led to turn over ball. His brother Ciaran swept the ball away from contact and the excellent Adam Daly powered through the weak defence and off-loaded to Eoin Firtear. From the resulting ruck Ciaran Slattery, gave a beautiful pass to Curran who beat the cover to score a great team try. From here on in the home side played some breathtaking attacking rugby spraying the ball wide at every opportunity with great inter play between backs and forwards, super carries from James Dooley, the massive Justin Burgess and Declan O’Sullivan paving the way for the backs to move the ball at every opportunity. From a great burst forward Ciaran Collins got quick ruck ball and sped over for the icing on a great home performance. Following the disappointment of last weekend this was a huge performance and shows the depth of talent and skill in this young West Kerry side. .

Spirited performace not enough to overcome league leaders   02 November 2009

On a wild and wet day in Ballydavid yesterday Rugbai Chorca Dhuibhne, missing some key players, hosted league leaders Presentation back west. The home side started well with the local lads throwing everything at the Limerick side, setting the tone early with huge hits and great carries from Conachuir Begley, Ciaran Slattery and Ciaran Collins. In every aspect of the game the home side matched Presentation; a strong scrum was the result of hard work from the pack especially Adam Daly and Declan O'Sullivan. In the line out Corca Dhuibhne welcomed back Bernard Galvin, the talismanic jumper who won everything and put the Pres lineout under horrible pressure. With nothing between the sides it was a game of taking chances, following good inter-play between backs and forwards Ciaran Collins converted good pressure to put the home side 3-0 up at half time. The second half supplied more of the same but when Presentation finished off a sweeping attack in the corner, Corca Dhuibhne had it all to do, with twenty minutes to go playing against a huge wind. Huge credit is due to the home side as they rallied; led by Cathal Mitchel and the excellent Ciaran Collins, the West Kerry lads battled forward. This earned them a penalty which was converted by Ciaran Collins. This late score left the scores at 6-5 with twenty minutes left. It was time for the West Kerry men to stand up and fight; they did just that with every man, from one to fifteen, putting their bodies on the line and battling like their lives depended on it. In injury time it looked like a huge win was on the cards but unfortunately, following a sustained attack from Pres, their numbers in attack proved the difference and they stole a late try in the corner with the last play of the game. While this was heart breaking for the Corca Dhuibhne side, many positives can be derived from a great performance which showed heart and determination. Rugbai Corca Dhuibhne 6 Presentation Limerick 10.
